Most road accidents in Oman due to tailgating, negligence, speed

Engineer Mohammed bin Awad al Rawas, Director General of Traffic, said that there has been a decline of 72% per cent in traffic accidents, 50 per cent in accident deaths  and 24 per cent in injuries compared to 2012. He added that over 47,000 per cent vehicle registrations has been renewed using the electronic mobile application. 


Meanwhile, National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) said that seven per cent of traffic accidents reported in 2016 were was due to motorists not keeping safe distance between vehicles.  It also said that 14 per cent of traffic accidents in the Sultanate during 2016 were due to negligence by drivers, while 53 per cent of the traffic accidents in the Sultanate during 2016 were caused by speed.
